Who should consider it?

If you or your employees travel for work, corporate travel insurance can protect your business from financial loss after events such as overseas health emergencies, flight cancellations or lost and stolen baggage.

It works like travel insurance, but is set up for your business, covering unexpected travel costs if specific events happen.

What usually is not covered?

Exclusions and the excess vary greatly between insurers. Exclusions may include:

  • Some pre-existing conditions (we can explain these)
  • Refunds if your travel provider becomes insolvent
  • Pregnancy
  • Travelling against medical advice

There are other exclusions, and we will take you through them.

What it can cover

Corporate travel policies vary in the benefits they provide. As a guide, your policy may include:

Overseas medical and evacuation

The costs of medical treatment and evacuation if staff become seriously ill or injured on a business trip.

Life and disablement

Protection for your staff if they become disabled or pass away while travelling for business.

Cancellations and missed connections

The costs of booking additional flights and accommodation for staff.

Rental car excess

The excess on a damaged or stolen rental vehicle.

Loss of deposits

Deposits on accommodation, flights or conferences if a trip is cancelled due to accident or illness.

Personal liability

Damage to property or bodily injury you cause or are responsible for while travelling.

Replacing an employee

The cost of sending or hiring someone to replace an employee who is injured or seriously ill during work travel.

A real-world example

A single fall overseas can mean surgery, rehab, cancelled flights and a replacement worker.

Case study

An injury in London

While visiting clients in London, your employee falls down a flight of stairs, fracturing their hip and breaking their arm.

After being taken to hospital, they are told they need surgery on their hip and physiotherapy before they can fly home. Their flight the next day must be cancelled.

Depending on the policy, you may be able to claim the medical costs of surgery and rehabilitation, the flight cancellation and the extra accommodation during physiotherapy. You may also be able to claim for someone to take over your employee's duties until they are back in Australia and fit to work.

Frequently asked questions

Does corporate travel cover domestic trips?

Many corporate policies cover domestic business travel as well as international trips, subject to conditions such as minimum distance from home. We check what yours includes.

Are spouses and children covered?

Many corporate policies extend to spouses and dependants travelling with the insured employee. Check the policy for limits.

Do we need to tell the insurer about every trip?

Annual corporate policies usually cover trips automatically within the policy limits, so you do not need to arrange cover for each trip.

Can you cover a single business trip?

Options for one-off trips may be available. Tell us about the trip and the travellers and we will look at what suits.
