Hair and beauty salon insurance, made simple
From hair salons and barbers to nail bars, lash and brow studios, day spas and mobile beauticians, we arrange insurance for salon businesses Australia-wide.
Treatments, chemicals and heated tools carry real risk, and your fit-out and stock are a big investment. We compare cover across a range of insurers and help you find the right fit.
Covers to consider
Every business is different. Depending on what you do, a sensible program may include:
Public and products liability
Injury to clients or visitors and claims arising from the products you use or sell, such as allergic reactions to dyes or skincare.
Treatment risk / malpractice
Cover for claims arising from the treatments you perform, such as burns, chemical reactions or lash and wax injuries. Some public liability policies exclude this, so it matters.
Business pack
Fit-out, furniture, stock, glass, theft and business interruption if your salon cannot open after an insured event.
Portable equipment
Clippers, dryers, straighteners, kits and equipment that travel with you to weddings, shoots and mobile appointments.
Management liability
Employment disputes, statutory fines and claims against owners and directors of salon businesses.
Cyber insurance
Booking system outages, hacked social accounts and client data breaches.

Real risks we help you plan for
Chemical reactions
A client reacts to hair dye, bleach or a skincare product, even after a patch test.
Burns and cuts
Hot tools, wax and sharp instruments can cause injuries that lead to claims.
Slips in the salon
Water and hair on the floor are a common cause of client and visitor injuries.
Unhappy results
A client claims a colour, lash or treatment caused damage or needs corrective work.
Break-ins and stock theft
Retail product and expensive tools are attractive to thieves.

Frequently asked questions
Does public liability cover treatments I perform?
Not always. Some public liability policies exclude injury caused by treatments, so salons usually need treatment risk (sometimes called malpractice) cover as well. We check that your policy matches the services on your menu.
I rent a chair in someone else's salon. Do I need my own insurance?
Usually, yes. Chair renters and contractors are generally not covered by the salon owner's policy, and many salons require renters to hold their own public liability and treatment cover.
Can I get cover for laser, injectables or skin needling?
These treatments are often excluded from standard salon policies. Specialist cover may be available, depending on your qualifications and the treatments you offer. Tell us the details and we'll look at the options.
Are my tools covered when I work mobile?
Only if your policy includes portable equipment cover. A standard contents policy may only cover tools while they are at your premises.
What does a salon policy usually cost?
It depends on your treatments, turnover, staff, location, claims history and the limits you choose. We compare insurers to find cover that suits your salon.
